British surfer who punched great white shark was saved by James Bond training

The British surfer who fought off a shark by punching it in the face may have escaped because of his JAMES BOND training.

Darren Mills, 28, was more than 50 yards off the coast of New Zealand when the 10ft great white shark sank its teeth into his thigh.

Darren from Crawley, West Sussex, punched the shark and swam to shore heavily bleeding from three bite wounds.

Just days before the attack he took part in a promotional video for a James Bond themed day trip in which he was taken under water in a mechanical shark.

Local surfer Nick Smart said: “He was sitting on his surfboard and the shark came up from nowhere and hit him. He struggled for a bit and then punched the shark and it let him go.”
