Call of Duty: Ghosts continues to perform in the charts, despite underperforming its predecessor by 19%. Meanwhile, Gran Turismo 6, which only entered the charts last week in 8th position, has seen sales decline and is now in 10th spot. Lego Marvel Superheroes made decent gains in order to reach number 3 from last week’s sixth position.
1 (1) – Call Of Duty: Ghosts
Call of Duty: Ghosts is proving to be a virtually unstoppable juggernaut, despite mixed reviews that were especially critical of its lack of originality. Analysts have said that Ghosts has sold 19% fewer copies than Black Ops 2 had by the some point in its lifecycle, but also said that some drop was expected following the release of new consoles.
2 (2) – FIFA 14
FIFA 14 only sold 600 copies less than Ghosts this week, and finds itself in 2nd place yet again. With no more new game releases before the New Year, it is highly likely that FIFA 14 will continue its battle with Call of Duty for the top spot.
3 (6) – LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
Lego games are a revelation. The franchise seems able to take any film or character license and create what turns out to be an excellent game. They succeed where many other game developers have failed, with very few exceptions. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes follows in these footsteps, and is a superb game that will appeal equally to parents as well as kids.
4 (3) – Battlefield 4
Battlefield 4 keeps hanging around, and with good reason. It is a great game, with a multiplayer that has many features that are better than Call of Duty: Ghosts. However, on console, the series has not enjoyed the same level of success as it has on the PC. Its slip into fourth spot is unlikely to spell a major decline in sales, and you should expect it to still be here next week.
5 (4) – Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is another one that will hold on around this position for at least a few more weeks. It is a good game, but suffers a little for the same lack of series originality as Call of Duty. With both games, the question remains of how you can make changes to such popular series that will seemingly continue to sell well regardless of any major upgrades or updates.
