Call of Duty: Ghosts has not exactly set the world alight, either in terms of critical reviews or gameplay features. However, it has held on to the top spot for the second week running, fighting off a charge from Lego Marvel Super Heroes. FIFA 14, Assassins Creed IV, and Battlefield 4, round off the top 5, less than a week before the release of the first next generation console.
1 (1) – Call Of Duty: Ghosts
Call Of Duty: Ghosts is, in many respects, disappointing and unsurprising, but it is still a really good quality game. The problem is that it doesn’t do very much that’s new, and it feels like it has been made simply to cash in on the franchise’s strong reputation and history of incredible sales figures. The multiplayer will keep you gunning for an age, as ever, and the single player campaign has some ludicrous moments that detract from the supposed realism of the title.
2 (-) – Lego Marvel Super Heroes
The Lego series of games makes a mockery of game making. They consistently produce high quality games for just about any franchise they go near, and yet the franchise itself releases drab and dull titles, with the only genuine exception being that of Batman. Lego Marvel Super Heroes is yet another fine indictment of the Lego game franchise, offering a massive campaign, access to virtually every Marvel character, including some you may not be entirely aware of, and it has incredible gameplay. A true hit.
3 (4) – FIFA 14
FIFA 14 – it’s football, it’s FIFA, and it’s this year’s incarnation of what is the best football franchise out there. Need we say more?
4 (3) – Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag
Assassins Creed games launch every single year, and sometimes you get the feeling that it would have been better if there had been a two year, or even a three year gap. AC IV is much like previous titles in the series, except that the seafaring adventures have a decidedly more horizontal feel to them. It’s still good, but we were hoping for something more.
5 (2) – Battlefield 4
You have to feel a bit sorry for Battlefield games. In this latest round of COD vs Battlefield, there is much less of a gap between the two, if any. However, the success of previous COD titles means that Battlefield 4 has already been forgotten, in favour of the chart topping Ghosts title.
