Damon Albarn has discussed his band Blur’s legendary rivalry with fellow Britpop giants Oasis in the 1990s.
Speaking to The Guardian, he also referred to the class war that the public identified between his band – who were from the South and perceived as middle-class – and the Northern, working class Oasis.
“The whole class thing was just insane,” he said. “But we were young and we let ourselves get caught up in it. And the competitiveness was ridiculous for a while, but, you know, I was never gonna beat Noel in a war of words.
Nowadays, they’re on much better terms.

One Direction have been announced as the opening act at Radio 1’s Big Weekend next month.
“We’re so excited to perform at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Glasgow. Glasgow we’re coming to get you,” they said.
The news was revealed by Nick Grimshaw on his show, where he also announced Bastille would be at the event, which is being held on 24 and 25 May.
Singer Dan Smith said: “We played last year and it was awesome. We can’t wait, we’re so excited.”
Ed Sheeran also spoke to Grimshaw on the phone after it was revealed he would be performing on the Saturday night. Continue reading
Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” has been named the most downloaded track of all time in the UK.
BBC Radio 1 counted down the 100 most downloaded songs in the UK today with the list being compiled by the Official Charts Company.
The track has sold over 1.54 million copies since it was first released back in May of last year.

The hugely successful stars are among only four acts officially confirmed for this year’s free event, joining Paolo Nutini and Paloma Faith, both of whom were previously announced to play the show on 24-25 May 2014.

Currys & PC World stores are the first to sell Google Chromecast in the UK, with the device available to buy today.
The new TV dongle device by Google – which has a £30 price tag and was unveiled last year – won’t be available in other UK physical retailers until the end of April.
