Microsoft touts Office for iPad – BUT there’s a catch

microsoft-office-for-ipadMicrosoft has, after years of speculation, released some of its Office applications for Apple iPad owners – but you’ll need an Office 365 subscription to use them in anything other than their basic form.

The Apple App Store now has Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint available for download for iOS 7, and the apps have been reworked to fit in with the iPad’s layout and form factor.

The apps will allow people to view Office files on their tablet, but not create new documents or edit existing ones – for that you’ll need an Office 365 cloud subscription, starting at $70 a year. Continue reading

Plessey is aimed at wearables having dot-sized LED

PlesseyPlessey has released it’s smallest packaged GaN-on-SI LED however, looking the item for the surging wearable electronic devices industry.

PLW138003 is a white LED in a 1005 (1×0.5mm) SMT package “designed specifically for the demand for ever smaller LED components producing highly collimated light”, said Plessey.

Facebook plans to beat Google on mobile territory shortly

facebookThe most prevalent Social networking giant Facebook’s is spreading its wings wide in global mobile ad market share and is expected to eat into tech major Google’s share.

In 2013, Facebook and Google together consolidated their places at the top of the market, accounted for over 66 per cent of the global mobile ad, that rose over two-fold to $17.96 billion, compared to 2012.

Google inks Glass deal with the maker of Oakley and Ray-Ban

google glassGoogle just signed the deal that could allow its Glass wearable computing device to go mainstream.

The company has announced a partnership with Luxottica, the eyewear manufacturer behind a host of brands including Ray-Ban and Oakley, to design and produce an exclusive collection of eyeglass frames that incorporate the technology.
