It may not seem like much of a prediction but Currys and PC World have said that they expect the Xbox One and PS4 to be the best sellers at Christmas time next year. Considering the furore that always surrounds new consoles, and the fact that it’s been six years since the release of a system from one of the big two manufacturers it seems highly plausible that it will be these two going head to head.
Currys Predictions for Christmas 2013
1 – Xbox One
The Xbox One will cost more than the PS4, but only by around £35 when you factor in the purchase of the Playstation Eye camera that will be required. Microsoft have also made a u-turn on various unpopular announcements and this looks to have borne fruit, in terms of anticipated popularity. Currys believes that the One will outsell the PS4 but in reality it could go either way.
2 – PS4
It is likely to be whichever company gets the drop on the other with regards to release dates and launch titles that will help win the war. Both have slated release dates for November or the end of the year and both will want the system on shelves in plenty of time for Christmas. Currys believe that the PS4 will be pushed back to be the second most popular seller.
3 – Apple iPad
While many analysts and CEOs are predicting the death of the tablet, it seems that Currys has yet to witness the decline. The iPad is the more popular of the tablets and the retailer believes that this popularity will remain until at least Christmas with only two brand spanking new consoles beating it to the top spot.
4 – Nexus 7
For those that want something a little cheaper than the iPad, the Google Nexus 7 is nothing short of brilliant. It is very portable, has access to Google Play which is packed full of decent apps, and it is a fraction of the price.
5 – Samsung Galaxy Tab 3
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 is more expensive than the Nexus 7 but it has a lot going for it; not least the fact that it is made by Samsung and, therefore, not made by Apple – in a lot of consumers’ eyes it is a Samsung vs Apple war and while Currys predicts that the iPad will win out this is likely to be another close run contest.
