Huawei Announces Ascend P6 Release And Unveil New MediaPad Vogue Phablet

huawei p6 PhabletHuawei have provided a release date and price for the higher end Ascend P6 and have also unveiled their first foray into the phablet market, in the shape of the MediaPad Vogue.

Huawei have been extremely busy in recent months, releasing a slew of devices and while the majority have been targeted at bargain hunters thanks to their meagre specifications, the Ascend P6 offers much more.

The Ascend P6 has a quad core 1.5GHz processor and a more than respectable 2GB of RAM. It also has a 4.7” touch screen that is a decent size and resolution.

In terms of cameras, the company has very much put its efforts into offering selfie takers with a camera to feed their fascination with their own faces. The Ascend P6 is no different in this respect because while it offers a fairly average 8mp rear facing camera it also has an impressive 5mp front facing camera to boot.

One more positive note, before we point out the understandable frailties of the handset, is its form. Huawei were delighted to inform the world that it is slimmest smartphone available measuring just 6.2mm thin.

The P6 has a price of £330, which is considerably lower than the likes of the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4 but this does mean that there are a few sacrifices that had to be made. It only offers 8GB of internal memory, which is low but can be increased via the microSD slot – do factor in the cost of a microSD card though, especially if you want to play high end and memory intensive games. The battery is a fairly meagre 2000mAH which doesn’t look great on paper and while the screen is a good size it offers 312 pixels per inch. For the sake of comparison, the S4 and the Sony Xperia Z both offer 441ppi making them a lot better but they also cost considerably more so there’s your trade off.

Huawei have also leapt into the phablet market and nailed their flag to the mast with the MediaPad Vogue. The 7 inch touch screen tablet/smartphone has a quad core 1.2GHz processor and 16 core GPU so will be good for high end games as well as the more basic titles available on the Android marketplace. It is a heavy device, though, weighing around three times as much as the Galaxy S4 and the iPhone 5. This extra weight is at least partially due to the massive 4100mAH battery.
