One Direction to play Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Glasgow

radio-1-big-weekend-glasgowOne Direction have been announced as the opening act at Radio 1’s Big Weekend next month.

“We’re so excited to perform at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Glasgow. Glasgow we’re coming to get you,” they said.

The news was revealed by Nick Grimshaw on his show, where he also announced Bastille would be at the event, which is being held on 24 and 25 May.

Singer Dan Smith said: “We played last year and it was awesome. We can’t wait, we’re so excited.”

Ed Sheeran also spoke to Grimshaw on the phone after it was revealed he would be performing on the Saturday night.

I’m looking forward to it. Glasgow is a mental place to go and do shows because the crowds are
all up for it,” he said.

“I’ve never had my eardrums be screamed down that much.”

Kings of Leon will be opening the main stage on Sunday and will be followed by The Vamps and then John Newman, it was announced.

Tinie Tempah will also join the Big Weekend line-up on Sunday.

Coldplay have already been announced as the headline act on the Saturday night at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Glasgow.
