The testimony of pathologist Gert Saayman was interrupted twice yesterday by Mr Pistorius’ sobbing and retching during his murder trial in the High Court in Pretoria.
The Paralympian gold medalist’s brother and sister tried to console Pistorius during Mr Saayman’s depiction of Ms Steenkamp’s wounds.
Ms Steenkamp was hit by shots to the hip, arm and head, Mr Saayman, who said he had carried out or supervised as many as 15,000 autopsies.
Defence lawyer Barry Roux asked for an adjournment to study research that Mr Saayman used to conclude Ms Steenkamp may have eaten two hours before she was shot, or after 1am on February 14th.
If found guilty of murder, he faces at least 25 years behind bars.
