The hip hop collective recently revealed that they have made just one copy of a new album, ‘The Wu — Once Upon a Time in Shaolin‘, and would be auctioning it off to the highest bidder.
Speaking to Billboard, RZA revealed the highest offer they have had since announcing the record’s release last month: “So far, $5 million is the biggest number.
I don’t know how to measure it, but it gives us an idea that what we’re doing is being understood by some,” he commented.
The new double album will be sold in an engraved silver-and-nickel box created by British-Moroccan artist Yahya and bear the group’s W insignia.
“We’re about to sell an album like nobody else sold it before,” said RZA when the release was announced. “We’re about to put out a piece of art like nobody else has done in the history of [modern] music. We’re making a single-sale collector’s item. This is like somebody having the sceptre of an Egyptian king.
