Sony has unveiled their new smartphone, the Xpera Z1 which will compete with the likes of the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4. It is waterproof, has a 20.7mp camera, and is set for European release this month.
The battle of the top end smartphones is about to potentially heat up again as Sony used the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin to unveil the new Xperia Z1 smartphone. The company’s primary focus in developing this phone has clearly been underwater photography as it has a meaty camera and full waterproof functionality. Will it prove useful for those that live above the water or are more interested in the other features that a smartphone has to offer?
The phone has a 5 inch screen that benefits from Sony’s Bravia technology, most commonly seen on their range of TVs. It has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor so will cope with just about anything even the most intense of smartphone users can throw at it and it backs this up with 2GB of RAM.
Sony has also packed the camera smartphone with a slew of great features. TimeShift is a built in app that enables users to take photos at 61 frames per second and then choose their favourite snaps before overlaying information on top of the image.
Social Live is a feature that allows users to stream directly from their phone to Facebook and the camera features are really quite impressive, as you would expect from a camera of this type of magnitude.
Whether the Sony Xperia Z1 will compete well with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4 remains to be seen but we won’t have to wait too long because the handset will be available in Europe this month. Expect many more announcements and unveilings in coming news stories as IFA is well and truly under way.
